The
crofting township of Achnacloich or Achadh na Cloiche (Scottish
Gaelic for "Stonefield") is located on the outskirts of Tarskavaig by
the
Gillean Burn watercourse.
Achnacloich
is 7 miles north of Ardvasar (hotel, pub) on the
Sleat Peninsula (the southern end of Skye known as The Garden of Skye),
and it stands detached, on a hillside, above a lovely beach and a
spectacular shoreline with views across to the Islands of Soay, Canna
and Rhum.
It
is reached by a single-track road (5 miles from main road) and visitors
can come from the
mainland either by the car-ferry from Mallaig to Armadale (8 miles), or
via the Skye Bridge (about 25 miles).
